Meal replacement bars are a great, convenient way to make sure you're never left stranded without a healthy snack. The only problem is that they're typically really unhealthy! Most of them are filled with sugar and processed crap. There are a few good brands of protein bars that you might want to check out - the
organic food bar is one of them. But, if you really want to know what's going into your bars - and save some money, for that matter - try making your own!
This recipe is from
About.com's bodybuilding section. Head over and check it out for more details on how to make them yourself, but here is a list of the main ingredients to give you an idea:
- Quick oats
- Powdered milk
- Protein powder
- Maple syrup
- Egg whites
- Orange juice
- Vanilla
- Apple sauce
You essentially mix all the ingredients together and bake them for about 20 minutes at 325 degrees in a 9x12 baking pan. Enjoy!
