Reader Q+A

For the first in a series of upcoming posts, I’d like to open things up for a little reader participation.  Just so the scope doesn’t get too broad, we’ll focus on questions on a specific theme for each Reader Q+A.  For the first in our series, we’ll be answering questions about working out – specific exercises, program design, sample routines, etc.  People many times have similar questions, so the answer to your question will likely help others with the same goals.  Here’s your chance guys!  Fire away!  Please post questions to comments.

First off, thanks for all of the great info on here! So I’m trying to lose a few pounds and I was wondering what type of cardio I should be doing to get to my goals the quickest. I get stuck in the habit of only getting on the treadmill and elliptical machines and I would like to mix it up a bit. Thanks!

Good question Jessica. Really, there is no ‘best’ type of cardio – there are a combination of factors that go into designing a cardio program that will get you to to your goals in the fastest and most efficient way possible.

First, take your own advice and try mixing it up! Your body will adapt to a cardio ‘type’ (running, eliptical, etc.) if you do it on a regular basis.

Also, you need to change the intensity as well. Try adding in a couple of high intensity interval workouts per week into your routine if you’re not doing so already. I talk about this in more detail in my
    Stop Doing Cardio! post.

Finally, if you’re trying to lose body fat, make sure you’re doing cardio frequently – at least four or five times a week all together.
